BARF Diet Brand Lamb Patties And Combo Patties For Dogs Recalled

From The BARFWorld Website - http://www.barfworld.com/html/IPEzine/TIP_13_2013.html

Please read this important message as it concerns you and your pets.

You're probably aware that there have been quite a few recalls of various pet foods due to salmonella contamination, the majority of these involving commercial dry dog foods.  Recently, two raw dog food companies have also issued recalls due to possible salmonella contamination.

As a result, the FDA has adopted a strict “zero-tolerance” for Salmonella in pet food and treats.

You’ll notice that in this week’s Pet Alert section of “The Intelligent Pet” newsletter, we have two of our own BARF World products listed in the recall section.

Here’s Why:

The manufacturing facility where we produce our diets was informed of a positive test for salmonella in a non-food item.  For the safety of you and your family, we have decided that the responsible thing to do in this instance would be to issue a voluntary recall of any BARF World products, which were produced the same day that the recalled products were made.

While none of our products made that day have been tested and found positive for salmonella, our duty to you, your pets, and the rest of your family is to make sure we make every effort to keep you safe.
Therefore, as a precaution, BARF World will be voluntarily recalling the following three products with a white “Use By” date sticker of 07272013:

BARF LAMB PATTIES - Use By Date 07/27/13

BARF COMBO PATTIES - Use By Date 07/27/13

BARF COMBO PATTIES - (BULK) Use By Date 07/27/13
The BARF World team has made sure to inform all customers who may have potentially received this product with a notice via email as well as by mail. Since we produce our diets in small batches to maintain optimum freshness and maximum shelf life, this voluntary recall only affects a small number of cases and diet varieties listed above.

As a BARF pet parent and raw food supporter, you understand that salmonella is a reality when feeding raw meat to your pet.  Luckily our dogs are naturally designed to be able to handle the normal amounts of bacteria present in raw meat. In fact, we know that our pets actually THRIVE on a biologically appropriate raw food diet.
In light of these recent salmonella issues, we thought you might like to read this short report about bacteria and Salmonella.

We know how important it is for the companies you do business with to remain transparent and honest with you, especially when circumstances such as these occur. At BARF World, we always make sure that every decision we make is in line with our strict set of values and – most importantly – that it is for the overall benefit of our clients and their pets.

If you would like more information about this voluntary recall, please check out the Frequently Asked Questions page. You can also contact our Customer Service Manager, Christopher Hampson toll-free at
1-866-282-2273 Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00 Pacific Standard Time. Alternatively, you can email your questions to
ChrisHampson@barfworld.com.

Sincerely,

Amber Keiper and the BARF World team

Natura Pet is expanding the recall of specific California Natural, Innova, EVO, Karma and Healthwise formulas as a precautionary measure due to potential Salmonella contamination. Mother Nature and wet products are not included in this recall. No other P&G Pet Care brands are impacted by this recall.

We were alerted to a single case of Salmonella in a 2.2lb package of EVO Turkey & Chicken Cat Food on March 15th and took the precautionary measure of recalling all products produced on the same line within the same time frame. In the course of further examination, Salmonella was also discovered in other packages of EVO Turkey & Chicken Cat Food and Innova Cat Treats.  We are taking the immediate and precautionary action of expanding the current recall to include additional Natura products that were produced between December 14th 2012 and March 24th, 2013 on the same production line. We are also recalling a single lot of Innova Cat treats.  True to our heritage, we will be transparent as we work through this issue.

Plans are in place to increase production and expedite release of product, but some supply disruptions should be expected.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -March 18, 2013 - Natura Pet Products is voluntarily recalling specific lots of dry pet food because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. No Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis,
arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

These products were made in a single production facility during a two week window in December 2012. Routine testing by the Michigan Department of Agriculture collected from a single retail location tested positive for the presence of Salmonella. As a precautionary measure, Natura is voluntarily recalling all products from this production window.

The affected products are sold in bags through veterinary clinics, select pet specialty retailers, and online in the United States, Canada, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Costa Rica. Product expiration dates range from 12/17/2013 – 1/2/2014. Product was distributed by Natura Pet Products between December 18, 2012 through March 15, 2013. No other dry food, canned food, biscuits, bars or
treats are affected by this announcement.

A complete list of products in the scope of this recall are listed at the end of this release. Additional information on these products can be found at 1www.naturapet.com2.

Consumers who have purchased the specific dry pet foods listed should discard them.

Natura Dog, Cat And Ferret Food Recalls - California Natural, EVO, Innova And Healthwise

Natura was purchased by P&G in 2010 but I couldn't find anything on their site about recalls. For those of you that didn't know it was purchased here is the press release - http://news.pg.com/press-release/pg-corporate-announcements/pg-acquires-natura-pet-products I do wonder why P&G isn't sending out this recall info since they are the owner now.

This is from the Natura Website

Dear Natura Family,

As pet parents and dedicated pet health advocates, it pains us to inform you of the first recall in our company’s 21-year history.

During a recent random sampling, the FDA confirmed the presence of salmonella in one of our products. We take this extremely seriously, because your pets are like ours – they’re part of the family – and we aren’t taking any chances. As a result, we have voluntarily recalled a number of our products as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, there have been no reported animal or human health issues associated with these products, and we have confirmed that this is not a widespread issue.

Natura was founded on the commitment to provide the healthiest natural pet food in the world. As Natura employees who live this commitment every day, words cannot express our disappointment with this finding. We place quality as the cornerstone of our products. It is a process of ongoing improvement, and we will continually review and raise these standards. Unfortunately, salmonella and other contaminants pose a great challenge to the food industry, and no company is immune.

We want to assure you, our valued customers, that we are more committed than ever to animal and human safety. We have fully investigated and identified the cause of this incident. Our production is ongoing, and you can continue to feed any Natura products outside of this incident with confidence.

We know that trust is earned. This incident further fuels our passionate commitment to your pet’s health and safety. We promise to demonstrate this commitment through our actions now and in the future.

Click here for details on the recall products. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at (800) 224-6123.

Sincerely,
Employees of Natura Pet Products

E-mail: info@bravorawdiet.com

Steves2FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - March 13,  2013 - Bravo! is voluntarily recalling its 2 lb tubes of Bravo! Raw Food Diet  Chicken Blend for Dogs and Cats, product code: 21-102, batch ID code 6 14 12,  because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recall involves 2 lb. Bravo! Chicken Blend  frozen raw diet tubes (chubs) made on June 14, 2012 only; no other products or  sizes are involved. The recalled product should not be sold or fed to pets. This  batch tested negative by a third party independent laboratory prior to release  for distribution to consumers, however routine testing by the Minnesota  Department of Agriculture of product collected from a single retail location  tested positive for presence of salmonella. While the testing discrepancy is  unclear, in an abundance of caution Bravo is issuing this recall.

The company has received no reports of illness in  either people or animals associated with this product.

The recalled product is distributed nationwide to  distributors, retail stores, internet retailers and directly to consumers, and  can be identified by the batch ID code 6 14 12 located on the white hang tag  attached to the bottom of the plastic film tube.

Pet owners should return unopened frozen tubes of  food to the store where purchased for a full refund. Pet owners should dispose  of opened tubes of product in a safe manner (example, a securely covered trash  receptacle) and return the washed plastic batch ID tag to the store where  purchased for a full refund.

Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial  infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary  tract symptoms.

In an effort to prevent the  transmission of Salmonella from pets to family members and care givers, the FDA  recommends that everyone follow appropriate pet food handling guidelines when  feeding their pets. A list of safe pet food handling tips can be found at:
http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm048182.htm.1

Salmonella can affect animals eating the product, and there is a risk to humans from handling contaminated products. People handling contaminated raw pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product.
