Did You Know Dogs And Cats Need Fish Oil Specifically For Them?

The question we get most often is...Can my dog or cat take the fish oil I take or fish oil for humans? Life's Abundance has a fish oil that was specifically created for your dog or cat.

Not All Pet Fish Oils are Created Equal

Regular supplementation of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) from fish oil can help support your companion animal’s healthy skin, coat, heart, brain eyes and joints. However, numerous supplements on the shelves today do not contain the optimal concentration of fish oil. In addition, many of these supplements are not tested by an independent laboratory to ensure purity and safety.

Ultra-Pure Fish Oil is Better

Our fish oils contain at least 30% EPA and DHA, an ideal concentration for the overall health of your dog or cat. The oil is in a triglyceride form, which is highly bioavailable and without added flavors so it has a natural taste that dogs and cats love.

Our liquid fish oil supplements are effortless to feed compared to gel capsules, which can be difficult to swallow and messy when rejected. The 2-oz. bottle has an easy-to-measure dropper and the 8-oz. bottle has an easy-to-use cup. (A triglyceride fish oil will not have any effect on the plastic dropper or measuring cup.)

Ultra-Pure Fish Oil offers outstanding value. For example, it cost only $.18 a day for a ten-pound cat and only $.37 a day for a 40-lb. dog on Autoship.

Dependable Quality

In its unpurified form, fish oil contains many environmental contaminants, some of which can be harmful to your pet’s health. To purify the oil takes many steps, each one adding to the cost of manufacturing. It is important to buy your fish oil from a company that not only says it purifies the oil, but one that is willing to share the test results from every batch made. It’s the surest way to know what you’re feeding is perfectly safe.

Ultra-Pure Fish Oil for pets are made in a human pharmaceutical facility … the same place as our Fish Oil for people. They are highly concentrated and ultra-pure. Like our Fish Oil for people, each bottle receives a nitrogen flush to remove oxygen from the bottle before it is sealed for ultra freshness. Plus, Ultra-Pure Fish Oils meet or exceed the highest standards in the industry for quality assurance. In fact, each batch of Ultra-Pure Fish Oil for pets is tested by an independent third-party organization (IFOS) and the results are posted right here so you can see the quality, concentration and purity that Ultra-Pure Fish Oil supplements offer.

Not All Fish Oils Are Created Equal. Find Out What You Should Look For...

Not all Fish Oils are Created Equal

The benefits of including additional Omega-3’s to your diet are well known. However, unless you’re taking a high quality supplement, you may be better off not taking one at all. In this case, what you don’t know could hurt your wallet and your health.

Your Wallet

The amount you pay for a bottle of fish oil can be deceptive. It’s not how much a bottle costs, but rather the amount you pay for 1,000 mg of the health-promoting ingredients EPA and DHA contained in the oil. If you look at our comparison, you’ll see that ultra-pure Life's Abundance Fish Oil represents one of the best values on the market today. In addition, you’ll also notice that our fish oils also contain sesame lignans and astaxanthin, two key ingredients that enhance the health-promoting qualities of fish oil.

Your Health

In its unpurified form, fish oil contains many contaminants, some of which can be harmful to your health. To purify the oil takes many steps, each one adding to the cost of manufacturing. It is important to buy your fish oil from a company that not only says it purifies the oil, but one that is willing to share the results from every batch made with you, so you can know you and your family are safe.

The Solution

Life's Abundance omega-3 fish oil supplements are highly concentrated and ultra pure and they meet or exceed the highest standards in the industry for quality assurance. In fact, each and every batch of Life's Abundance Fish Oil is tested by an independent third party organization (IFOS) and the results are posted right here so you can see the quality, concentration and purity that ultra-pure fish oil supplements can offer you and your family.

In addition to the above, the recommended serving size of many other fish oils won’t give the amount of EPA and DHA used in most of the studies conducted on fish oil. Life's Abundance Fish Oil does. Our fish oil also represents an extremely good value for the EPA/DHA in every capsule as shown in our comparison.

Top 10 Reasons Your Dog Or Cat Should Take Fish Oil

Friends

Fish oil supplements are an ideal complement to your pet’s diet because they  supply omega-3 fatty acids, which your dog or cat’s body cannot sufficiently  produce on its own. Still in doubt? Here are the top 10 reasons why it’s  important to supplement your dog or cat’s daily intake with a quality fish oil  supplement.

1. Your Pet Will Burn Fat More Efficiently

The Omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil supplements help improve the metabolism  of a dog and cat’s body in a natural way and cause body fat to burn more  quickly. (2,10)

2. Improved Development of Puppies & Kittens During Pregnancy

During a pregnancy, supply your canine or feline mama omega-3 needs with a  pure, safe fish oil supplement. The reason is because the omega-3 fatty acid DHA  helps improve brain development, concentration, immunity and eyesight, among  other things. (1,5)

3. Slow Down Your Pet’s Aging Process

We all want to age more slowly, right? EPA and DHA found in fish oil help  slow down the aging process by reducing inflammation and extending the longevity  of cells. In this way, omega-3s help keep your pet kids feeling younger for  longer. (3)

4. Improved Flexibility

Because of the anti-inflammatory properties of EPA from fish oil supplements,  the discomfort in your pet’s joints and muscles may actually decrease. What you  will notice is that over time, fish oil supplements can help with stiffness to  rise and help your pet be more active and enjoy walks and games with you. (4)

5. Improved Performance in Canine Athletes

Omega-3s in fish oil supplements improve the functioning of the lungs. For  our active agility dogs, runners, Frisbee dogs, swimmers and mountain hiker  companions, fish oil will help your dog keep up with you. (14)

6. Better Concentration & Limiting Brain Cell Deterioration

Thanks to EPA and DHA from fish oil, your pet’s brain may age more slowly and  perform optimally. The essential fatty acids in the omega-3s contribute to  sounder sleep, an essential element in keeping concentration sharp. (6)

7. Optimized Immune System Functioning

A daily supplement of omega-3s from fish oil supplements help the white blood  cells perform their anti-inflammatory function optimally. This helps your pet’s  defense against diseases and other ailments by strengthening the immune system.  (15)

8. Better Heart Health

The omega-3s in fish oil supplements help keep cholesterol levels at a  healthy level and help keep this vital muscle healthy. (8,9)

9. No More Grumpy Cat

Fish oil supplements are proven to improve mood in humans, and studies are  forthcoming about their benefits in pets! (12, 13)

Why Do Quality And Purity Matter In Fish Oil?

Sealogix-Fishoil-Caps-240-lg

At Life's Abundance, a higher standard is set for all of our Sealogix products. We source our Omega-3's from fish located in some of the cleanest waters in the world from fisheries that are renewable and fully-sustainable. The fish oil is then molecularly distilled to concentrate and purify the oil.

Manufacturers of fish oil are required to test each batch they produce; however, in many cases, this testing is handled by the manufacturers themselves. Often testing is conducted prior to adding flavors and bottling, so the fish oil that is tested in-house may not necessarily be the same quality of fish oil delivered to the marketplace.

In addition to the standard manufacturer testing for every batch, we have enlisted the help of IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards), a non-affiliated third party and the internationally-respected source for fish oil analysis. IFOS scientifically tests and analyzes Sealogix. This validation testing ensures that you are getting a safe and effective fish oil supplement that you can feel confident giving to your family. We are proud to announce that Sealogix has been awarded an IFOS 5-Star Rating (the highest rating available) for quality, concentration and purity. For more information on IFOS testing, please visit IFOS Testing or click here to review Sealogix IFOS results.

How To Survive Holiday Stress

Stressed Woman

For many people, the holidays are a stressful time of year. Unexpected guests  dropping by, entertaining relatives, and finding the perfect gift on everyone’s  list are all daunting tasks. To add even more to the holiday pressure, we must  still deal with our day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. Talk about unwanted  stress!

Stress is the body’s normal form of defense. When faced with danger or  discomfort, your body reacts in a ‘fight or flight’ mode as a form of  protection. If your body is subjected to constant, repetitive and stressful  situations, without time to restore itself, your health could suffer.

In a recent study, WebMd.com found:

  • *43% of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress

  • *75% to 90% of all doctor's office visits are stress-related ailments and  complaints

  • *Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) declares stress a hazard  of the workplace

  • *Stress costs the American industry more than $300 billion annually

In order to avoid the potentially harmful effects stress can place on your  body, there are some simple steps that you can take to help manage your stress  levels:

  • *Stay Positive – Is the glass half empty or half full? Always  try to see the positive side of things. Jot down all of the positive things  happening in your life. Focus your attention on them.

  • *Exercise – Just ten minutes on an elliptical machine or a brisk walk around  the block will be sure to boost your feel-good endorphins.

  • *Stretch – Stand tall and stretch those arms in the air. Take a few deep breaths  and release the tension from your body.

  • *Acceptance – Remember that some things are simply out of your control. You are  only responsible for what is under your direction.

  • *Breathe – Take a deep breath in through your nose and exhale through your  mouth. When you breathe in, feel your lungs fill with oxygen as your chest  expands. A few deep slow breaths will help send you to a state of calm.

  • *Walk – Remove yourself from the situation, get outside and take a ten-minute  walk. Clear your mind and take in the natural beauty of your surroundings.

  • *Supplement – Studies show that people who eat a diet rich in omega-3’s have an  easier time dealing with stressful situations. The fatty acids (EPA and DHA)  found in omega-3’s have proven to help the body maintain healthy levels of  serotonin. Serotonin helps control emotional responses and create a sense of  well-being. By supplementing your diet with an ultra-refined, ultra-concentrated fish oil like Sealogix, you can take a positive step in coping with stress in a healthier way.

The holidays should be a joyful time of the year to spend with family and  friends. Enjoy every day to its fullest, by simply helping the stress to leave  your body as quickly as it entered.

Frequently Asked Questions About Omega 3 Fatty Acids And SeaLogix Fish Oil

What are Omega-3 fatty acids?
Omega-3’s belong to a group of fatty acids known as long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Because the body does not manufacture them, Omega-3's are classified as "essential fatty acids" (EFA’s), as it is essential they be obtained from food. There are three important Omega-3 fatty acids: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA are found in fish, while ALA is found only in plant foods such as flaxseed meal. The body can convert ALA into small amounts of EPA and DHA, but recent studies have indicated that our bodies are somewhat inefficient in this conversion. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement your diet with these nutrients in order to significantly change your levels of Omega-3’s.

What is sesamin?
Naturally found in sesame seeds as lignans, sesamin comes from the 1% solid portion of the kernel’s oil. Sesame and sesame lignans are associated with health benefits in humans.

How much sesamin is in each serving of Sealogix (120 capsules)?
Four capsules contains 68 mg of sesame extract, which is 60% sesamin. Therefore, four capsules contains 40.8 mg of sesamin.

What do Omega-3 fatty acids do for the body?
The Omega-3’s EPA and DHA are recognized for their health benefits in all life stages. They are important building blocks for every cell in your body, which requires these crucial components to grow, develop and maintain health.* These fatty acids are an integral part of cell membranes and are precursors of several important cellular messengers.* Studies have demonstrated that EPA is important for optimal brain function and contributes to the reduction of cellular inflammation.* DHA has been recognized for brain, visual and nervous system health and development.* Additionally, these essential fatty acids work together to contribute to good heart health.*

What is the richest source of Omega-3 fatty acids?
Fish oil is the richest source for eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Cold-water fish, like anchovies, salmon and sardines, are considered the best source for these essential fatty acids. It is important to remember, that all omega-3's are not created equal. You would need almost four tablespoons of flaxseed oil to get the same amount of EPA and DHA found in one teaspoon of Sealogix! That's approximately ten times as much flaxseed oil than fish oil.

Why should I take a fish oil supplement?
Changes in food preferences and the impact of modern food processing in Western society have led to a significant decrease in average dietary intake of Omega-3 fatty acids. As a result, most American diets contain far more Omega-6’s than Omega-3’s. In fact, it is estimated that the average American has between twenty to fifty times the amount of Omega-6’s as they do Omega-3’s. Recent studies have indicated that this kind of imbalance can set the stage for a host of health problems. To promote a healthier fatty acid ratio, it is advisable to avoid Omega-6’s (which are commonly found in fried foods, commercial baked goods and some margarines), and eat more baked or broiled seafood and supplement the diet with a high-quality fish oil like Sealogix.

What are the health benefits associated with taking Omega-3 EFA’s from fish oil?
Scientific evidence has indicated that a diet rich in Omega-3 essential fatty acids helps support:A Healthy Brain
A Healthy Heart
A Healthy immune system
Healthy joint movement
Healthy kidneys
A balanced mood and sense of wellbeing
Strength and stamina
And helps maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range*
We invite you to review our extensive research section, which provides summaries of recent scientific inquiries into the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil.

Why does purity matter with regard to fish oil?
Unfortunately, pollution has affected the water quality of all of our oceans. The contaminants in our waters include toxins like mercury, PCB’s, arsenic, lead and cadmium. Consequently, many fish now contain these undesirable elements. That is why it is very important to choose a fish oil that is molecularly distilled. Molecular distillation is a process that concentrates and purifies the fish oil. It is also important to select a fish oil product that is tested for concentration, toxicity and safety by an independent third party. Supplementing your diet with an ultra-refined fish oil like Sealogix allows you to safely get the additional Omega-3 fatty acids you need.

I’ve researched many fish oil supplements. What makes Sealogix better?
Sealogix is an ultra-refined, ultra-concentrated, fish oil awarded an IFOS 5-Star rating for purity and concentration. Because Sealogix is ultra-refined, you can feel confident you are ingesting one of the purest fish oils available. And because Sealogix is ultra-concentrated, you receive more Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA for your money. We invite you to compare Sealogix to other popular brands of fish oil currently on the market. We think you’ll agree that our product represents an exceptional value.

What is IFOS and what does a “5-Star Rating” mean?
IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) is a division of Nutrasource Diagnostics, Inc., that provides independent, third-party testing for our Sealogix Omega-3 Ultra-Refined Fish Oil products. IFOS testing judges the quality, purity and concentration of fish oil, based upon the international standards established by the World Health Organization and the Council for Responsible Nutrition. Our rating lets you know that Sealogix is of the highest quality available on the market today – there is no better rating than a 5-Star.

Do you guarantee freshness and purity?
Yes. When you order Sealogix, we promise to deliver the highest-quality products in excellent condition, right to your front door. If for any reason your purchase does not meet with your satisfaction, we will gladly replace the product or refund your money (excluding delivery charges). For detailed information on our return policy, please see the invoice included in your shipment.

How much Sealogix should I take?
The suggested serving for a healthy adult is four 1,000 mg Sealogix capsules daily (4,000 mg of fish oil concentrate), eight 500 mg Sealogix capsules daily (4,000 mg of fish oil concentrate) or one teaspoon of Sealogix liquid supplement daily (4,400 mg of fish oil concentrate). Always consult your health care provider for additional guidance on how Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil can benefit your personal health profile.

What’s the best way to store Sealogix?
Store Sealogix capsules in a cool, dry place between 58 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit to maintain maximum freshness. Store Sealogix liquid in the freezer or refrigerator after opening.

I’ve heard that some fish oils don’t taste very good. What does the liquid Sealogix taste like?
Sealogix liquid fish oil is virtually tasteless and has a slight citrus flavor.

On Sale Now ... New and Improved Sealogix 500 mg Capsules with Sesamin and Astaxanthin!

We are pleased to announce that our new and improved Sealogix Omega-3 Ultra-Refined Fish Oil 500 mg capsules (240 a bottle) are on sale now! This new formula has a more powerful preservative system and an improved citrus flavor.

Sealogix Omega-3 is an ultra-concentrated, ultra-refined fish oil that is independently tested for purity, quality and concentration. It goes beyond molecular distillation to provide you and your customers with a highly concentrated and purified fish oil supplement.

As you may know, this formula already contained sesamin, which is derived from sesame lignans. Both sesame and its derived lignans are associated with multiple health benefits.

The new formula has an improved preservative system with the addition of a plant-derived nutrient and antioxidant called Astaxanthin. We also added mixed tocopherols (a natural form of vitamin E) and ascorbyl palmitate (a natural form of vitamin C). Together, these antioxidants form a preservative system that ensures our oil retains its health-promoting benefits longer while remaining easily digestible. We have also enhanced the flavor of our new formula by adding a citrusy blend of natural orange and lime flavors.

Each serving of Sealogix contains a minimum of 60% EPA/DHA, packed with 1,600 mg of EPA and 800 mg of DHA. (Serving size is eight 500-mg capsules.) When compared to other popular brands on the market, our supplement continues to be an outstanding value for fish oil consumers.

The health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil are well-known. It is now very common for doctors to recommend fish oil supplementation to their patients. Taking a Sealogix Ultra-Refined Fish Oil supplement may be one of the best decisions you could make.

Fish Oil Reduces Prostate Cancer Growth in Humans

November 13, 2011 - Byron Richards, CCN

Researchers at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center have proven that fish oil combined with a low fat diet can reduce the number of rapidly dividing prostate cancer cells. This is important because many men don't even know they have prostate cancer and others are trying to change their lifestyles and curtail the problem as part of medically supervised surveillance. This study is clear cut proof that fish oil is a potent anti-prostate cancer nutrient.

The participants ate a 15% fat diet along with 5 grams of fish oil per day (around 1000 mgs of DHA Docosahexaenoic acid Essential omega 3 fatty acid integral to the health of all cell membranes, nerve and brain function. Must be gotten through the diet via cold water oceanic fish or some very limited plant sources or taken as a supplement.). We know that the fat you eat ends up in your cell membranes and then influences the function of those cells. Too many omega 6 oils (such as corn and soy oil) relative to a lack of DHA Docosahexaenoic acid Essential omega 3 fatty acid integral to the health of all cell membranes, nerve and brain function. Must be gotten through the diet via cold water oceanic fish or some very limited plant sources or taken as a supplement./EPA Eicosapentanoic acid. Type of long chain essential fatty acid - Omega 3 oil. Works in concert with DHA. Must gotten through food sources such as deep cold water fish or some limited plant sources or taken as a supplement. , tilts the cell membranes into a more inflammatory condition that assists cancer growth. The typical Western high fat diet, high in omega 6 oils, and lacking in omega 3 fish oils, has been hypothesized to create such problems. This study actually proves it does.

The men in this study had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Some took the fish oil and ate low fat and others continued their Western diet for four - six weeks until their surgery to have their prostate removed. Their prostate cancer cells were then re-evaluated following the surgery. Those taking the fish oil were shown to have higher amounts of the omega 3 oils in their healthy prostate cells as well as their prostate cancer cells, proving that the oil that was consumed actually made it into the prostate gland.

Furthermore, those taking the fish oil had fewer rapidly dividing cancer cells. "The finding that the low-fat, fish oil diet reduced the number of rapidly dividing cells in the prostate cancer tissue is important because the rate at which the cells are dividing can be predictive of future cancer progression," said lead author Dr. William Aronson. "The lower the rate of proliferation, the lesser the chances that the cancer will spread outside the prostate, where it is much harder to treat… We are extremely pleased about our findings, which suggest that by altering the diet, we may favorably affect the biology of prostate cancer."

A great deal of human suffering could be avoided simply by ensuring an adequate intake of omega 3 fatty acids.

Fish Oil Helps Prevent Osteoarthritis

November 14, 2011 - Byron Richards, CCN

New research has shown for the first time that omega-3 in fish oil (DHA Docosahexaenoic acid Essential omega 3 fatty acid integral to the health of all cell membranes, nerve and brain function. Must be gotten through the diet via cold water oceanic fish or some very limited plant sources or taken as a supplement./EPA Eicosapentanoic acid. Degenerative joint disease. Most common type of arthritis that causes a chronic, progressive, breakdown in cartilage in middle-age adults and older.. "There was strong evidence that omega-3 influences the biochemistry of the disease, and therefore not only helps prevent disease, but also slows its progression, potentially controlling established osteoarthritis Degenerative joint disease. Most common type of arthritis that causes a chronic, progressive, breakdown in cartilage in middle-age adults and older.," said lead researcher Dr John Tarlton.

The research was conducted in a strain of guinea pigs that naturally develop osteoarthritis Degenerative joint disease. Fish oil intake reduced the pathology of tissue damage associated with osteoarthritis Degenerative joint disease. Most common type of arthritis that causes a chronic, progressive, breakdown in cartilage in middle-age adults and older. towards those without the problem. Medical research director of Arthritis Research UK, Professor Alan Silman, said: "The possibility that omega-3 fatty acids could prevent osteoarthritis Degenerative joint disease. Most common type of arthritis that causes a chronic, progressive, breakdown in cartilage in middle-age adults and older. from developing has been a tantalising one. Some limited, previous research in dogs has suggested that we were a long way away from understanding the potential use in humans. However, this current research in guinea pigs is exciting as it brings us closer to understanding how omega-3 might fundamentally interfere with the osteoarthritis Degenerative joint disease. Most common type of arthritis that causes a chronic, progressive, breakdown in cartilage in middle-age adults and older. process, and that it could potentially be taken as a treatment."

I have been reporting that new science shows that DHA Docosahexaenoic acid Essential omega 3 fatty acid integral to the health of all cell membranes, nerve and brain function. The ability to recover from inflammation is required to keep up with wear and tear and prevent for every body structure. This study shows just how important these nutrients are to long term joint health.

Why Does Quality and Purity Matter In A Fish Oil Supplement?

LifesAbundanceFishOilBanner
At Life's Abundance, they set a higher standard for all of our Sealogix products.

For more information on IFOS testing, please visit IFOS Testing  or see below to review Sealogix IFOS results.

How Does Fish Oil Work?

LifesAbundanceFishOilBanner
The generic term fish oil implies multiple grades of fish oil with varying purities and concentrations. The efficacy of these oils significantly differs, depending on the potency of fish oil consumed. Therefore, when we elaborate on how fish oil works, it is a general enumeration of ways in which fish oil benefits and improves health or ailment conditions.

With higher concentration and purity, the potency of fish oil rises too. Long chain omega 3 fatty acids are known to be the most beneficial element in fish oil. Consisting of essential fatty acids, such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentanoic acid (EPA), fish oil is the richest source of such vital nutrients for the body.

It has also been notices that the concentration of these essential fatty acids is three times higher in fish oils than in the flesh of the fish. Thus fish oil supplements are a richer source of omega 3 fatty acids and nutrition than actual consumption of fish.

Fish oil extracted from fish such as mackerel, salmon, sardines, herrings and pilchards are more effective and potent than the oil extracted from cod liver. In fact, cod liver oil is the most impure form of consumable fish oil available today. Health grade fish oil is partially refined fish oil whereas pharmaceutical grade fish oil is the most pure and most potent fish oil available.

The essential nutrients, EPA and DHA are absent in the modern processed foods. In fact, alternate sources of this healthy fat, such as flaxseed provide very less amounts of omega 3 fatty acids. That is why fish oil is the most potent and the most preferred source of these highly beneficial fatty acids.

Omega 3 fatty acids are the secret behind how fish oil works. These highly beneficial fatty acids were noticed for their highly remarkable effect on the cardiovascular health of Inuits, who inhabited the polar regions. Their diet consisted predominantly of animal fat which was a sure way to cardiovascular ailments. However, researchers noticed that, contrary to general assumptions, the Inuits had a surprising absence heart disease.

The missing link in the equation were the omega 3 fatty acids which the Inuits consumed in large amounts, thanks to their diet of sea fish. Thus omega 3 fatty acids provide you the same benefits as it did to the Inuits.

Life's Abundance Is Expanding To Build New Corporate Offices In Jupiter, FL

From Sun-Sentinel.com

By Alexandra Clough, The Palm Beach Post, 5:22 p.m. EDT, May 23, 2011

Growing pet food firm to build headquarters in Jupiter

A Palm City company known for its healthy pet foods has purchased land in Jupiter and plans to build a new headquarters and distribution facility.

Life's Abundance has bought a 1-acre parcel just outside the Jupiter Park of Commerce on Capital Street. Plans are to build a 21,000-square-foot facility. The project is valued at $3.1 million, which includes $600,000 paid for the land, said Lester Thornhill, the company's president and chief executive.

The seller was Capital Street Holdings. Rick Reikenis, a Capital Street official, said he and his partners bought the land in 2008 to build a building for their North Palm Beach engineering firm, East Bay Group, but the recession undercut their plans.

Their setback, however, proved fortuitous for Life's Abundance, which now will be able to expand its business. The company has 32 employees and is looking to hire. It expects to grow to at least 50 once it makes the move to Palm Beach County by February. The company has an immediate need for a marketing and communications specialist.

"We need a larger labor pool," Thornhill said.

The company is poised for continued growth with the popularity of its all-natural cat and dog food. Thornhill would not disclose profits at the privately held company, but he said that revenue exceeds $15 million annually.

Sales continue to grow. Last year the company grew more than 7 percent, and this year "we're up more than last year," he said.

Peter Reed, a Commercial Florida Realty Services principal and the broker on the deal, called the move a "real shot in the arm" for the economy. "It brings needed jobs to Jupiter," Reed said, and will add some construction jobs, too.

Thornhill said the company needed a bigger building and decided to build its own facility after realizing that prices for property and construction were going to go up. "We realized if there was any time it made sense to build a building, that time would be now," he said.

The building also will be the company's headquarters and the location of its southeast distribution facility. In addition to Florida, Life's Abundance has distribution facilities in California and Illinois.

The company, founded in 1988, makes skin-care products for people, as well as environmentally friendly cleaning products. But its cat and dog foods are its signature. Thornhill said the pet foods do not contain corn, wheat, soy, artificial colors or preservatives.

All-natural pet products may have seemed like an unnecessary perk for puppy when the company began 13 years ago, but over time, consumers have discovered the benefits of healthy eating, both for themselves and their pets, company executives said.

Linda Logue, the company's marketing vice president, said most people consider pets part of the family and will cut back on other expenses before they switch their pet's food to a different brand.

Thornhill said: "When people find a pet product that provides a benefit, that's the last place they're going to look to save money."

AHA Issued Their First Ever Statement On Triglyceride Management And Omega-3 EPA/DHA

The American Heart Association (AHA) recently issued its first ever statement on triglyceride management that includes recommendations for Omega-3 EPA/DHA intake. Elevated triglyceride levels have long been associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). According to the AHA more than 31% of the United States population has borderline high triglyceride levels. Furthermore, AHA’s 2006 statistical data estimates that 81,100,000 people in the United States have one or more forms of cardiovascular disease, claiming 831,272 lives in that same year.

In conjunction with other important lifestyle changes, the AHA recommends 0.5 - 1g of Omega-3 EPA and DHA for individuals with borderline fasting triglyceride levels (150-199mg/dL), 1 - 2g for individuals with high fasting triglyceride levels (200-499mg/dL), and 2 - 4g for individuals with very high fasting triglyceride levels (≥500mg/dL). The AHA has also previously recommended that normal healthy individuals consume a variety of fish (preferably oily), and a daily intake of 1g of Omega-3 EPA and DHA for patients with documented coronary heart disease.

The recent statement issued by AHA is a very positive step for improving consumers’ understanding of the role of triglycerides in CVD management. Although awareness of the health benefits of Omega-3 is very high among consumers, many still do not understand the different forms of Omega-3 (EPA, DHA and ALA), or the health benefits of each.

It is important for consumers to understand that fish provides both EPA and DHA, whereas most algae sources provide only DHA. Furthermore, while ALA is an essential fatty acid, many of the  reported health benefits associated with Omega-3 have been the result of supplementation with EPA and DHA. While the body can theoretically convert ALA into EPA and DHA, the actual conversion rate is very low. In fact, many studies suggest that the conversion rate can be as low as 1% or less. As such, fish, fish oil supplements, and food products fortified with fish oil are the best sources of Omega-3 for consumers.

What Is Stress & How Do You Overcome Feeling Stressed?

Are you stressed out? If you’re like most Americans, chances are the answer is, “Heck, yeah!” Unfortunately, stress is now just a way of life for too many of us. Whether it’s concerns over the uncertain economy, struggling to meet deadlines at work, handling family emergencies, dealing with relationship woes, or even tolerating daily traffic jams, there seems to be an unending parade of stressors in modern life.

Since this is National Stress Awareness Month, now’s a good time to discuss the different aspects of stress, how it can help or hurt you, and the coping mechanisms that can diminish it. If you’re already feeling too stressed to read the rest of this article, you really need to … so take a deep breath and read on.

What is stress?

The term “stress” is used as an umbrella term that covers the range of physiological responses to certain life events, such as an imminent threat, a heated argument, and real or imagined danger. When you react to stress, your body is trying to protect itself in the face of certain challenges. By releasing adrenaline and cortisol hormones, your body readies you for action. Consequently, your blood pressure rises, breathing becomes more rapid and your heart pounds. These physiological changes help to boost your strength, bolster your stamina and hone your focus.

If you’re stressed, you’re not alone

According to a March survey, 77% of Americans suffer from job-related stress. Topping the list of workplace stressors was low pay; however, commuting, unreasonable workloads and layoff fears were not too far behind.

Common negative stressors include the death of a loved one, divorce, injury or illness. Even though most people associate stress with negative situations, stress can also arise in positive scenarios, too. Any highly charged situation, especially one which forces you to quickly react, can cause stress. Positive stressors include marriage, buying a house, having a child and getting a promotion. And, depending on your personality, you may suffer from self-imposed stress, from mental states like pessimism, perfectionism or the inability to accept uncertainty.

Are you a serial stressor?

Although stress helps you meet short-term challenges, chronic stress can leave your body both over stimulated and depleted, risking damage to your health. Long-term stress can suppress the immune system, increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, and can even lead to premature aging, leaving you more vulnerable to emotional problems such as anxiety and depression.

These are serious health concerns so we encourage you to take time to consider how you’ll react in various situations. Often, those who suffer from chronic stress don’t actually recognize when they are stressed. The warning signs include constantly worrying, feeling overwhelmed, sleeping too little and frequent colds. If you believe you might be suffering from chronic stress, the first step is to talk with your doctor. Beyond that, here are some specific ideas about how to reduce the impacts of stress in your life.

Tips for managing stress

To start, coping mechanisms such as smoking, overeating, avoiding social interactions, lashing out at others and abusing drugs are known to be harmful to your health. Fortunately, there are healthier ways to manage stress, including …

Guided Imagery … Think of a peaceful setting. Imagine all the details, including visuals, smells and sounds. Think about how calm you feel. Use this process whenever you are faced with stressful situations.

Talk to a Friend … Expressing your feelings to a trusted friend can lighten your load. Remember, the more you isolate yourself, the more susceptible you will be to stress.

Aromatherapy … Thanks to the nose’s strong ties to the brain, aromatherapy offers a quick and easy way to foster a relaxed state of mind. Lavender, citrus and vanilla are effective scents that can be purchased at health food stores.

Exercise … Walk, swim or take a bike ride. When you exercise at a certain level over a period of time, the body produces chemicals that can make you feel good. And, you’ll probably drop some weight, too.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids … Serotonin, a hormone found naturally in the brain, is responsible for controlling emotional responses and creating a sense of well-being. The EPA and DHA present in Omega-3 fatty acids help maintain healthy levels of serotonin.

Eat a Healthy Diet … Try to avoid fast foods loaded with fat and preservatives, overly salted foods, caffeine and sugar. Make sure your diet includes proteins, whole grains, fresh veggies and plenty of water.

Laugh … Laughing actually induces physical changes in your body. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.”

Meditate … It’s not necessary to take a class or even buy a book. Find a comfortable and quiet spot and think about all of the positive things in your life. Make an effort to feel truly thankful for each of them.

Enjoy Nature … Taking a walk outdoors can do you a world of good. Basking in sunshine not only feels good, it is good for your health, when taken in moderation. Sunshine helps stimulate serotonin, which can promote a good mental outlook.

Help Someone Else … Research reveals that people who engage in altruistic behavior are inclined to enjoy better mental health.

Learn to Say No … You may be surprised to learn that many people find it difficult to say “no”. Reserving this right every once in a while can keep you from filling up every minute of every day.

Indulge in Your Hobbies … When you do something you love to do, you go to a more positive emotional level.

Learn from Others … Do you admire how a friend or co-worker handles stressful situations? If so, observe (or simply ask them) how they do it. You may learn a helpful trick or two.

Do Nothing … Sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that it’s okay to just do nothing at all for a while. Stop whatever activity is at-hand and savor the moment.

Ask for Help … If you start to feel overwhelmed by chores or tasks, ask for help. It’s as simple as that!

Smile … Try it right now. You may find this minimal act an instant stress reducer.

Groove More … Treat yourself to some excellent tunes, preferably up-tempo.

Do One Thing at a Time … Smart phones and computers are great, but sometimes they can boggle the senses, increasing stress.

Hydrotherapy … Soaking in a hot bath sprinkled with epsom salts can help release muscle tension and get you ready for a good night’s sleep.

Curl up with a Friend … Spending quality time with your companion animal can lower blood pressure and stress levels.

No matter which techniques you choose to incorporate in your routine, we truly hope they’ll help you to live a more abundant life, with less abundant stress!

Fish Oil Part of Regimen to Protect Against Heart Disease

In the first large-scale study of its kind, researchers from the Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine in Japan investigated the health effects of daily Omega-3 supplements in combination with a drug commonly prescribed for those at-risk for heart attacks, angina and other coronary events.

Patients were all identified as having higher than average levels of cholesterol. They were divided into two groups: a main group that included nearly 15,000 participants with no prior history of coronary artery disease, and a secondary group with over 3,600 subjects with a prior history of coronary artery disease. Some of each group were given highly-purified fish oil supplements in addition to statins (enzyme blockers that lower cholesterol levels in the blood by reducing the production of cholesterol by the liver), while others were given only the prescription drug.

Over the course of the nearly five-year study, there was a significant difference between those receiving the fish oil supplements and those who did not. While both therapies proved effective in reducing levels of cholesterol, participants taking the fish oil supplements and statins had a 19% reduction in risk for heart illness. The research also noted that a similar, preventative benefit from daily fish oil supplementation that may convey to those not currently deemed at-risk for heart problems.

Omega-3’s Help To Preserve Cognitive Functioning

In a study featured in Neurology, 1,613 subjects were examined between the ages of 45 and 70, testing the correlation between Omega-3 consumption and the preservation of cognitive abilities. Mental functioning was gauged on multiple measures by researchers (memory, psychomotor speed, higher-level information processing and overall cognition), and participants completed a food consumption questionnaire to record their eating patterns, especially as their diets related to intake of fatty fish.

Consumption of long-chain polyunsaturated Omega-3 fatty acids derived from fish was positively associated with a reduced risk of mental impairment, both on measures of overall cognitive function and psychomotor speed. Researchers also noted a significant correlation between higher consumption rates of cholesterol (saturated fats) and an increased risk of impaired memory and cognitive flexibility.

The researchers concluded that Omega-3’s may benefit cognitive performance due to their anti-inflammatory properties. The researchers further speculate that the diminished cognitive performance associated with lower intake of Omega-3’s may be a predictor of Alzheimer’s Disease later in life.

Show Your Heart Some Love with Omega-3

HeartScope February is not just for lovers anymore. The American Heart Association (AHA) has officially dubbed February “American Heart Month”. So, what better time to start showing your heart more love than in February? The Center for Disease Control and Prevention claims that heart disease is the leading cause of deaths in the United States. Both the Mayo Clinic and the AHA suggest that consuming 2-3 (3.5 ounce) servings of omega-3 rich foods a week can help support a healthy heart.

How do you know that you are providing your body with enough omega-3’s? Here are a few ways to ensure that you are consuming the recommended amounts of omega-3 fatty acids:

Eat Fish - All fish contain omega-3’s. The fattier the fish, the higher the omega-3 levels. Your best bets are fish with high levels of omega-3’s, such as mackerel, salmon, sardines, herring and tuna. Be sure to use caution when consuming large amounts of fish, as some have elevated levels of mercury, which could lead to health risks, especially in pregnant women. In order to make your fish selection an easy one, the EPA has published safe eating guidelines. For more information, visit www.EPA.gov and type ‘safe eating guideline’ in the search box at the top of the home page.

Go Nuts - Most nuts, seeds and beans also contain omega-3’s. The best sources are soybeans, walnuts, flaxseed and pumpkin seeds.

Cook with Oil - Instead of cooking in vegetable oil, try a more heart-healthy option by using olive oil, sunflower seed oil, soybean oil, flaxseed oil or canola oil.

Get Fortified - When you are shopping at the local market, keep your eyes open for foods fortified with omega-3. Most will prominently display “Enhanced or Fortified with Omega-3” on the label. Juices, eggs, pastas, cereals, breads and even soups are just some of the products that now feature heart healthy omega-3’s.

How can you truly be certain that you are getting plenty of omega-3’s? Taking an omega-3 fish oil supplement daily is a great way; however, be sure to choose an ultra-refined product. To be sure you are getting the highest quality, choose a fish oil supplement that has an IFOS 5-Star Rating. This validation testing ensures that you are getting a safe and effective fish oil supplement that you can feel confident giving to your family.

Do you lead a heart-healthy lifestyle? Finding out is easy! The AHA has developed an interactive online action plan for you to determine if you are leading a healthy life. It is called “Life’s Simple 7”. Take the test and discover the state of your heart. The program will provide you with simple steps to achieve a healthier heart and lifestyle. So, show your heart some love and visit www.MyLifeCheck.org and take the challenge today.

Dyslexia, Diet and Omega 3 Fish Oils

Dyslexia appears to be a close cousin of attention deficient disorder and affects about 5 percent of Americans. Dyslexics often see letters backwards or turned sideways and have a tough time reading printed text. Just like those with ADD, people with dyslexia have a deficiency of long-chain Omega 3 fatty acids in their blood lipids. Supplementation with long-chain Omega 3 fatty acids should, therefore, reduce this problem. This thinking makes perfect sense because the retina in each of your eyes (which is responsible for the quality of the visual input to the brain) has the highest concentration of DHA in the body. Like the children with ADD, those with dyslexia will require the combination of high-dose fish oil and insulin control. Like the children with ADD, children with dyslexia initially require between 9 and 18 grams per day of ultra- refined long-chain Omega 3 fatty acids to see an improvement in their condition.

The Benefits Of Taking A High Dose Fish Oil Supplement

Lifes abundance sealogix fish oil A common question regarding pharmaceutical grade fish oil is: What can you expect when you begin taking high-dose Pharmaceutical grade fish oil if you're relatively healthy? You will notice that your mental abilities are enhanced and that your emotional state is on a more even keel. Taking doses of long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids increase your body's production of the two neurotransmitters (dopamine and serotonin). Dopamine spurs you to action allowing enhanced concentration by your brain. It allows you to concentrate on the task at hand and organize yourself more efficiently. Serotonin is your morality or "feel good" hormone that gives you a sense of well being and allows you to handle stress more easily.

Within 7 days of taking EPA and DHA from Omega-3 fish oil concentrates and following balanced dietary recommendations with exercise, you can expect to find yourself thinking more clearly with a greater sense of concentration. In addition, your ability to handle stress will be greatly increased. Finally, you will see improvement of your physical capacity for exercise, especially in terms of greater endurance, due to better blood flow. Most important, however, you are taking the first step for you to have a longer and better life.

Taking an Ultra Pure Omega-3 Fatty Acid Will Help You:
■ Burn fat faster: Excess weight is a potent stimulator of silent inflammation. Omega-3 fatty acids help accelerate your rate of fat loss and control Silent Inflammation simultaneously. Taken daily, Omega-3 fatty acids enable you to reduce excess body fat at the fastest possible rate.*
■ Control molecular inflammation: Omega-3 concentrates enriched with EPA and DHA are powerful anti-inflammatory agents. The growing importance of daily supplementation with ultra-refined Omega-3 fatty acids enriched with EPA and DHA has been confirmed by leading medical institutions and government health agencies.
Controlling inflammation through your diet and nutritional supplementation is key to maintain a state of wellness.

Scientists Learn How Food Affects The Brain: Omega 3 Especially Important

Article From ScienceDaily (July 11, 2008) — In addition to helping protect us from heart disease and cancer, a balanced diet and regular exercise can also protect the brain and ward off mental disorders.

"Food is like a pharmaceutical compound that affects the brain," said Fernando Gómez-Pinilla, a UCLA professor of neurosurgery and physiological science who has spent years studying the effects of food, exercise and sleep on the brain. "Diet, exercise and sleep have the potential to alter our brain health and mental function. This raises the exciting possibility that changes in diet are a viable strategy for enhancing cognitive abilities, protecting the brain from damage and counteracting the effects of aging."

Gómez-Pinilla analyzed more than 160 studies about food's affect on the brain; the results of his analysis appear in the journal Nature Reviews Neuroscience.

Omega-3 fatty acids -- found in salmon, walnuts and kiwi fruit -- provide many benefits, including improving learning and memory and helping to fight against such mental disorders as depression and mood disorders, schizophrenia, and dementia, said Gómez-Pinilla, a member of UCLA's Brain Research Institute and Brain Injury Research Center.

Synapses in the brain connect neurons and provide critical functions; much learning and memory occurs at the synapses, Gómez-Pinilla said.

"Omega-3 fatty acids support synaptic plasticity and seem to positively affect the expression of several molecules related to learning and memory that are found on synapses," Gómez-Pinilla said. "Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for normal brain function.

"Dietary deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids in humans has been associated with increased risk of several mental disorders, including attention-deficit disorder, dyslexia, dementia, depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia," he said. "A deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids in rodents results in impaired learning and memory."

Children who had increased amounts of omega-3 fatty acids performed better in school, in reading and in spelling and had fewer behavioral problems, he said.

Preliminary results from a study in England show that school performance improved among a group of students receiving omega-3 fatty acids. In an Australian study, 396 children between the ages 6 and 12 who were given a drink with omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients (iron, zinc, folic acid and vitamins A, B6, B12 and C) showed higher scores on tests measuring verbal intelligence and learning and memory after six months and one year than a control group of students who did not receive the nutritional drink. This study was also conducted with 394 children in Indonesia. The results showed higher test scores for boys and girls in Australia, but only for girls in Indonesia.

Getting omega-3 fatty acids from food rather than from capsule supplements can be more beneficial, providing additional nutrients, Gómez-Pinilla said.

Scientists are learning which omega-3 fatty acids seem to be especially important. One is docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, which is abundant in salmon. DHA, which reduces oxidative stress and enhances synaptic plasticity and learning and memory, is the most abundant omega-3 fatty acid in cell membranes in the brain.

"The brain and the body are deficient in the machinery to make DHA; it has to come through our diet," said Gómez-Pinilla, who was born and raised in salmon-rich Chile and eats salmon three times a week, along with a balanced diet. "Omega-3 fatty acids are essential."

A healthy diet and exercise can also reduce the effect of brain injury and lead to a better recovery, he said.

Recent research also supports the hypothesis that health can be passed down through generations, and a number of innovative studies point to the possibility that the effects of diet on mental health can be transmitted across generations, Gómez-Pinilla said.

A long-term study that included more than 100 years of birth, death, health and genealogical records for 300 Swedish families in an isolated village showed that an individual's risk for diabetes and early death increased if his or her paternal grandparents grew up in times of food abundance rather than food shortage.

"Evidence indicates that what you eat can affect your grandchildren's brain molecules and synapses," Gómez-Pinilla said. "We are trying to find the molecular basis to explain this."

Controlled meal-skipping or intermittent caloric restriction might provide health benefits, he said.

Excess calories can reduce the flexibility of synapses and increase the vulnerability of cells to damage by causing the formation of free radicals. Moderate caloric restriction could protect the brain by reducing oxidative damage to cellular proteins, lipids and nucleic acids, Gómez-Pinilla said.

The brain is highly susceptible to oxidative damage. Blueberries have been shown to have a strong antioxidant capacity, he noted.

In contrast to the healthy effects of diets that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, diets high in trans fats and saturated fats adversely affect cognition, studies indicate.

Junk food and fast food negatively affect the brain's synapses, said Gómez-Pinilla, who eats fast food less often since conducting this research. Brain synapses and several molecules related to learning and memory are adversely affected by unhealthy diets, he said.

Emerging research indicates that the effects of diet on the brain, combined with the effects of exercise and a good night's sleep, can strengthen synapses and provide other cognitive benefits, he added.

In Okinawa, an island in Japan where people frequently eat fish and exercise, the lifespan is one of the world's longest, and the population has a very low rate of mental disorders, Gómez-Pinilla noted.

Folic acid is found in various foods, including spinach, orange juice and yeast. Adequate levels of folic acid are essential for brain function, and folate deficiency can lead to neurological disorders such as depression and cognitive impairment. Folate supplementation, either by itself or in conjunction with other B vitamins, has been shown to be effective in preventing cognitive decline and dementia during aging and enhancing the effects of antidepressants. The results of a recent randomized clinical trial indicate that a three-year folic acid supplementation can help reduce the age-related decline in cognitive function.

In patients with major depression and schizophrenia, levels of a signaling molecule known as brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF, are reduced. Antidepressants elevate BDNF levels, and most treatments for depression and schizophrenia stimulate BDNF. Here, too, omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial, as is the curry spice curcumin, which has been shown to reduce memory deficits in animal models of Alzheimer's disease and brain trauma. BDNF is most abundant in the hippocampus and the hypothalamus -- brain areas associated with cognitive and metabolic regulation.

The high consumption of curcumin in India may contribute to the low prevalence of Alzheimer's disease on the subcontinent.

In humans, a mutation in a BDNF receptor has been linked to obesity and impairments in learning and memory.

"BDNF is reduced in the hippocampus, in various cortical areas and in the serum of patients with schizophrenia," Gómez-Pinilla said. "BDNF levels are reduced in the plasma of patients with major depression."

Smaller food portions with the appropriate nutrients seem to be beneficial for the brain's molecules, such as BDNF, he said.

Gómez-Pinilla showed in 1995 that exercise can have an effect on the brain by elevating levels of BDNF.

He noted that while some people have extremely good genes, most of us are not so lucky and need a balanced diet, regular exercise and a good night's sleep.

The research was funded by the National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

How Easily Absored Is Your Fish Oil? A Simple Home Test To Determine Your Fish Oil Quality

Not all fish oils are created equal but how can you determine if your fish oil is a quality fish oil? Here is a simple test that you can perform at home to understand that fish oils are quite different.

Take a styrofoam egg carton and cut two or three egg holding sections out. Take one or two capsules of your current fish oil brand and take one or two of our Life's Abundance SeaLogix fish oil capsules.  Snip or puncture the end of the capsules.  Place the Life's Abundance SeaLogix fish oil in one section and your current fish oil in another.

Note* When using the Life's Abundance SeaLogix with Sesamin you will notice that it has a different consistency than the 8 oz. Life's Abundance SeaLogix liquid. This is due to the addition of the sesamin
and will not effect the overall results of this test other than slightly slow down the process.

This test only takes about 15 minutes and the fish oil will start to pass through the styrofoam within a short period of time. The fact that fish oil can pass through plastic is actually a very good thing! Our intestinal tracts are designed to absorb very very tiny molecules after a food or substance has been digested.  Because Life's Abundance SeaLogix fish oil is in a smaller molecular form, more of it can be absorbed in proportion than other fish oils that have not gone through this type of refinement. This is also why Life's Abundance SeaLogix fish oil is easier on the digestive system in reality because the body does not have to work to break it down in order to use higher amounts of it. If the other fish oil you are testing is a typical health food grade, it will sit in the styrofoam for hours and or days without even attempting to pass through and even molecularly distilled fish oils will sit there. Some fish oils may attempt to disfigure the surface, but they simply don't pass through, or they don't pass through as easily and take a lot longer.  This tells you that they are not as small of a molecule as Life's Abundance SeaLogix fish oil and therefore are not as available for absorption in the intestinal tract.

There are other oils that readily pass through the egg carton material but please note that fish oil may or may not be as fresh as ours because of the fact that it has been handled via wharehouses that may or may not be adequately climate controlled and may have sat for hours in a truck during hot weather. Fish oils are very unstable in nature and MUST BE KEPT cool and many of the trucks used to ship them sit for hours in the hot sun on the highway and this can cause a fish oil to be in the beginning stages of rancidity or fully rancid by the time you, the consumer purchases them.

There is also the case of the lawsuit in CA for truth in labeling where they took many brands and had them tested for purity and a lot of them did not pass. Some had very high levels of dioxin and the labels claimed that they were free of contaminants and some were even molecularly distilled fish oils. For more information on that you can Google Artilcle 65 court case in CA for fish oils. It is also interesting to note that one of the companies listed in the class action lawsuit is a major supplier to other companies
selling fish oils!

IFOS, the International Fish Oil Standards organization is widely recognized as the world’s premier fish oil testing agency and does independant testing. Please be sure to use only a 5 Star Fish Oil which is the highest possible rating a fish oil can receive and has received it from IFOS.

What Are Omega 3 Fatty Acids & What Makes SeaLogix Fish Oil Better Than Other Fish Oils?

Sealogix fish oil What are Omega-3 fatty acids?

How much sesamin is in each serving of Life's Abundance Sealogix (120 capsules)?

To promote a healthier fatty acid ratio, it is advisable to avoid Omega-6’s (which are commonly found in fried foods, commercial baked goods and some margarines), and eat more baked or broiled seafood and supplement the diet with a high-quality fish oil like Life's Abundance Sealogix Fish Oil.

What are the health benefits associated with taking Omega-3 EFA’s from fish oil?
Scientific evidence has indicated that a diet rich in Omega-3 essential fatty acids helps support:
  • A Healthy Brain
  • A Healthy Heart
  • A Healthy immune system
  • Healthy joint movement
  • Healthy kidneys
  • A balanced mood and sense of wellbeing
  • Strength and stamina
  • And helps maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range*

Supplementing your diet with a pharmaceutical-grade fish oil like Sealogix allows you to safely get the additional Omega-3 fatty acids you need.

I’ve researched many fish oil supplements. What makes Life's Abundance Sealogix Fish Oil better?
Sealogix is an ultra-refined, ultra-concentrated, pharmaceutical-grade fish oil awarded an IFOS 5-Star rating for purity and concentration.

IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) is a division of Nutrasource Diagnostics, Inc., that provides independent, third-party testing for our Sealogix Omega-3 Pharmaceutical-Grade Fish Oil products. IFOS testing judges the quality, purity and concentration of fish oil, based upon the international standards established by the World Health Organization and the Council for Responsible Nutrition. Bhaskaran S, Santanam N, Penumetcha M, Parthasarathy S. Inhibition of atherosclerosis in low-density lipoprotein receptor-negative mice by sesame oil. J Med Food. 2006 Winter;9(4):487-90.

Study Abstract

Department of Pathology, Louisiana State University, Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, LA, USA.

Diet has profound effects on the development of atherosclerosis. Fatty acid composition, antioxidants, and other components such as lignans have major effects on the atherosclerotic process. Sesame oil has both mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acid constituents in equal proportions. In addition, it also has high levels of numerous antioxidants and inducers of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor. The objective of this study was to determine the anti-atherosclerotic effects of sesame oil. In this study, male low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor (LDLR) -/- mice were fed atherogenic diet or atherogenic diet reformulated with the same level of sesame oil (sesame oil diet). Plasma lipids and atherosclerotic lesions were quantified after 3 months of feeding. Sesame oil-containing diet significantly reduced the atherosclerotic lesion formation and plasma cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL cholesterol levels in LDLR -/- mice. These findings suggest that sesame oil could inhibit atherosclerosis lesion formation effectively, perhaps because of the synergistic actions of fatty acid and nonsaponifiable components.

Chen PR, Chien KL, Su TC. Dietary sesame reduces serum cholesterol and enhances antioxidant capacity in hypercholesterolemia. Nutr Res. 2005;25(6): 559-67.

Study Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of sesame on lowering serum lipids and enhancing antioxidant capacity in 21 hyperlipidemic patients. Subjects were instructed to consume their regular diet for 2 weeks before starting the experimental diet. The experimental diet with 40 g roasted sesame was consumed for 4 weeks and the regular diet followed for another 4 weeks. Body weights and fasting blood were determined at weeks 0, 4, and 8. The results showed that the diet with sesame significantly decreased the levels of serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. The time for erythrocyte hemolysis and the lag phase of LDL oxidation were significantly increased by sesame ingestion. A diet containing sesame slightly reduced the levels of thiobarbituric acid–reactive substances in LDL. The beneficial effects of sesame disappeared when patients returned to their regular diets. Sesame in this study appeared to exert beneficial effects on serum lipids and to improve antioxidant capacity in hypercholesterolemic patients.

Hirose N, Inoue T, Nishihara K, et al. Inhibition of cholesterol absorption and synthesis in rats by sesamin. J Lipid Res. 1991 May;32(4):629-38.

Study Abstract

Laboratory of Nutrition Chemistry, Kyushu University School of Agriculture, Fukuoka, Japan.
The effects of sesamin, a lignan from sesame oil, on various aspects of cholesterol metabolism were examined in rats maintained on various dietary regimens. When given at a dietary level of 0.5% for 4 weeks, sesamin reduced the concentration of serum and liver cholesterol significantly irrespective of the presence or absence of cholesterol in the diet, except for one experiment in which the purified diet free of cholesterol was given. On feeding sesamin, there was a decrease in lymphatic absorption of cholesterol accompanying an increase in fecal excretion of neutral, but not acidic, steroids, particularly when the cholesterol-enriched diet was given. Sesamin inhibited micellar solubility of cholesterol, but not bile acids, whereas it neither bound taurocholate nor affected the absorption of fatty acids. Only a marginal proportion (ca. 0.15%) of sesamin administered intragastrically was recovered in the lymph. There was a significant reduction in the activity of liver microsomal 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase after feeding sesamin, although the activity of hepatic cholesterol 7 alpha-hydroxylase, drug metabolizing enzymes, and alcohol dehydrogenase remained uninfluenced. Although the weight and phospholipid concentration of the liver increased unequivocally on feeding sesamin, the histological examination by microscopy showed no abnormality, and the activity of serum GOT and GPT remained unchanged. Since sesamin lowered both serum and liver cholesterol levels by inhibiting absorption and synthesis of cholesterol simultaneously, it deserves further study as a possible hypocholesterolemic agent of natural origin.

Department of Food and Nutrition, Sugiyama Jogakuen University, Nagoya 464-8662, Japan.

We have previously reported that dietary sesamin and sesaminol, major lignans of sesame seed, elevate the alpha-tocopherol concentration and decrease the thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) concentration in the plasma and liver of rats. In this study, the effects of dietary sesamin and sesaminol on the lipid peroxidation in the plasma and tissues of rats fed docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6 n-3) were examined. Male Wistar rats (4-wk-old) were divided into the following six experimental groups: control group, fed a basal diet: sesamin group, fed a diet with sesamin (2 g/kg); sesaminol group, fed a diet with sesaminol (2 g/kg); DHA group, fed a diet containing DHA (5 g/kg); DHA + sesamin group, fed a diet containing DHA with sesamin; and DHA + sesaminol group, fed a diet containing DHA with sesaminol. Each diet contained either 0.01 or 0.05 g D-alpha-tocopherol/kg, and the rats were fed the respective experimental diet for 5 wk. The dietary DHA elevated the TBARS concentration and also increased the red blood-cell hemolysis induced by the dialuric acid. The dietary sesamin and sesaminol lowered the TBARS concentrations and decreased the red blood hemolysis. The dietary sesamin and sesaminol elevated the alpha-tocopherol concentrations in the plasma, liver, and brain of the rats fed a diet with or without DHA. These results suggest that dietary sesame lignans decrease lipid peroxidation as a result of elevating the alpha-tocopherol concentration in rats fed DHA.

Study Abstract

Laboratory of Food and Biodynamics, Nagoya University Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya 464-8601, Japan.

Plant glucosides possess antioxidative properties due to their ability to scavenge free radicals. Sesame seeds contain a class of these compounds, the sesaminol glucosides. To evaluate their antioxidative activity in vivo, we fed rabbits diets containing 1% cholesterol (Chol) with or without 10% defatted sesame flour (DSF) (containing 1% sesaminol glucosides) for 90 d. We determined the susceptibility of their tissues to oxidation ex vivo as well as serum total cholesterol (TC), phospholipid (PL), triglyceride (TG) and HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) concentrations. Serum TC, HDL-C, PL and TG levels were unaffected by the addition of DSF. The HDL-C in the Chol + DSF group was greater than in the Chol group at 45 d. Both were greater than in the groups that did not consume cholesterol. Liver TC and TG were significantly lower in rabbits fed the diet containing DSF plus 1% cholesterol than in those fed 1% cholesterol alone. Lipid peroxidation activity, measured as 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), was lower in the liver (P < 0.05) and serum (P = 0.06) of rabbits fed DSF plus cholesterol than in rabbits fed the cholesterol diet. Although we did not detect sesaminol glucosides in peripheral tissues, we observed abundant quantities of sesaminol in rabbits fed DSF, the principal metabolite. Our findings suggest that feeding DSF to rabbits does not protect cholesterol-induced hypercholesterolemia, but may decrease susceptibility to oxidative stress in rabbits fed cholesterol, perhaps due to the antioxidative activity of sesaminol.

Compare Life's Abundance SeaLogix Fish Oil To Your Current Fish Oil Brand - Does It Stack Up?

Thanks in large part to the superior quality, purity and concentration of nutrients, Sealogix represents an exceptional value compared to other market brands. To demonstrate the overall value of our formula, we have provided the following comparison chart, which matches Sealogix against competing brands. To create a meaningful, apples-to-apples comparison, we calculated our chart based upon the two most prevalent nutrients in omega-3’s – the long-chain fatty acids EPA and DHA. The prices listed in the chart below demonstrate the costs associated with 1,000 mg of omega-3's (DHA/EPA).* You will note that the Sealogix Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil supplements beat the competition by a wide margin: the Sealogix 8-ounce liquid costs $0.45 per 1,000 mg, the Sealogix with Sesamin 120 capsules cost $0.51 per 1,000 and the Sealogix with Sesamin 240 capsules cost $0.54 per 1,000.

While price may be your primary source for comparison, it shouldn’t be the only measure. When it comes to providing the very best for you and your family, it is vital to take into account the purity and safety of a given fish oil supplement. That’s why Sealogix is subjected to stringent scientific testing, the results of which are posted online for your review. All of our Sealogix formulas are tested by IFOS, the International Fish Oil Standards organization, widely recognized as the world’s premier fish oil testing agency. As noted in the comparison chart, all Sealogix supplements have achieved IFOS’s highest possible rating – 5 Stars.

* Although there is no established RDA for Omega-3 Fatty Acids (EPA and DHA), much of the medical research on the health benefits of these nutrients is conducted using amounts of 1,000 mg and up.

The information for this comparison was acquired from reputable Internet web sites during March and April of 2009. This comparison chart focuses on the cost of 1,000 mg of Omega-3's (EPA and DHA) only. Although some of the products used in this comparison contain additional ingredients that may be beneficial to your health, only the cost of the long-chain Omega-3's (EPA and DHA) were calculated. The Sealogix brands used in the above comparison are Sealogix Omega-3 Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil Supplement (8-ounce Liquid) and Sealogix Omega-3 Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil Supplement with Sesamin (120 and 240 capsules) and the costs per bottle are Autoship prices.

Are All Omega-3s Created Equal?

There seems to be a lot of confusion out there as to the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids. This article will break down the major sources of omega-3’s and give you the information you need to make educated choices.

First, there are three main types of omega-3 fatty acids: DHA, EPA and ALA. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) are found in fish and ALA (alpha-linolenic acid ) is found in plants like flaxseed. When you choose an omega-3 source, we suggest that you select a healthy balance of all fatty acids, but make sure you are getting enough EPA and DHA, as these fatty acids are responsible for the majority of the health benefits of omega-3’s.

This is important to remember: if a food or supplement states it is high in omega-3, it does not necessarily mean it is high in EPA and DHA. For example, although flaxseed oil is six times richer than most fish oils in omega-3’s, flaxseed oil contains mainly ALA, not DHA and EPA. Unfortunately, our bodies can only convert ALA into DHA and EPA in very small amounts. Scientific studies have revealed that fatty acids from fish or fish oil, but not flaxseed oil, benefited patients with cardiovascular disease and ADHD.

The best sources of EPA and DHA are fatty fish and fish oil. Cold water fish (like salmon, herring and sardines) are high in omega-3 and serve as good sources of proteins. Unfortunately, our waterways and oceans are polluted and the fish that live in them are increasingly contaminated with methyl mercury, PCBs, arsenic, DDT and other heavy metals. If you choose to get omega-3’s from eating fish, then do your homework. Be sure that you’re buying from a sustainable, deep-water fishery. Check the Environmental Defense Fund’s web site for current ocean fish recommendations and the Environmental Protection Agency’s web site for information on fresh water fish.

Fish oil supplements are also very good sources of EPA and DHA. They are easy to take, pack a powerful punch of omega 3’s and they are highly effective. Although there are very good products available, the drawback is figuring out which fish oil supplement to choose for your family. Because the majority of fish in our oceans are contaminated, it stands to reason that oil from the fish are subject to the same contaminants. The good news is that high-quality fish oil is processed several times to concentrate and purify the oil so that it is safe and effective. So if you are looking for a fish oil supplement, ask if the oil is tested for quality, purity and concentration by an independent third party, such as the IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards). And don't hesitate to ask if the results of those tests are published for everyone to see.

Are there different types of EFA’s And What are the differences?

If you’re like most people, you are probably wondering, “What are essential fatty acids?” Or, “How could something with the word ‘fat’ in it be good for me?” The short answer is essential fatty acids (or EFA’s) are essential because our bodies alone cannot produce them – they must be obtained through our diet. EFA’s are long molecules that are used in the construction of the walls of our cells, known as the cell membranes. The cell membranes are critical for both nutritional processes and the excretion of toxic waste products. Without EFA’s, the body cannot make or repair cell membranes correctly. EFA’s also regulate bodily functions such as blood pressure, clotting, fertility, heart rate and immunity. For these reasons, they are often referred to as “good fats”.

Now that you know a little more about essential fatty acids, you may wonder, “Are there different types of EFA’s?” And if so, “What are the differences?”

There are two main classes of EFA’s in our diet – omega-3 and omega-6. The diet of our ancestors was very different from the diet we eat today. It was much lower in calories, higher in fiber, and richer in fruits, vegetables, lean meat and fish. It was also lower in overall total fat and contained equal amounts of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. Today, however, the typical Western diet contains 10 to 25 times more omega-6 than omega-3, making the typical Western diet appallingly deficient in omega-3’s.

This is important because EFA’s are not all created equal: omega-3 and omega-6 have very different and opposing functions. Omega-3’s are necessary for proper cell membrane construction and keep the membrane flexible and supple. This is particularly important in red blood cells. In 2004, the FDA stated that consumption of omega-3’s may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, and they have been shown to reduce blood pressure and blood triglyceride levels. Omega-3’s have been studied for their beneficial role in brain and mood disorders, such as Parkinson’s and ADHA. Omega-6’s also have some benefits, such as supporting healthy skin and kidneys, but not nearly that of omega-3’s. Furthermore, too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 has been shown to cause serious health problems, such as heart attack, arthritis, inflammation, mood disorders, obesity and cancer. Not only that, excessive omega-6 will compete with omega-3, thus increasing the deficiency of omega-3. Researchers now know that a proper balance of omega-6 and omega-3 EFA’s is critically important in development, decreasing chronic disease and improving mental function.

You can increase your omega-3 consumption by eating more cold water fish or taking a fish oil supplement. Omega-6 fatty acids can be found in walnuts, flaxseed and canola oil.

Lawsuit Raises Safety Issues Related to Competing Brands of Fish Oil Supplements

On Tuesday, March 2, 2010, a lawsuit was filed in a San Francisco Superior Court, which alleged that several popular brands of fish oil supplements have illegally undisclosed and unnecessarily high levels of contamination from toxic PCB compounds. Widely regarded as cancer-causing agents, PCB’s were outlawed from manufacture in 1979. The lawsuit names eight manufacturers and retailers of fish and fish liver oils (as well as shark and shark liver oils) which tested positive for PCB contamination that exceeded the limits approved for human consumption under California’s Proposition 65. The initial defendants named are CVS Pharmacy, Inc.; General Nutrition Corp. (GNC); Now Health Group, Inc.; Omega Protein, Inc.; Pharmavite LLC (Nature Made brand); Rite Aid Corp.; Solgar, Inc.; and TwinLab Corp.

These allegations should give consumers cause for grave concern. Although many currently marketed fish oil supplements feature claims of being “treated” to remove or reduce levels of PCB’s and other toxins, many fail to accurately state the residual levels of PCB’s remaining after “treatment”. This lack of disclosure leaves consumers completely in the dark, not knowing whether or not they are ingesting high levels of PCB’s when taking their omega-3 supplement. The allegations are deeply disturbing, as many consumers regularly take their supplements every day.

Sealogix’s Safety is Guaranteed by Independent Third Party Testing

At Life's Abundance, we impose exacting standards upon all of our products, including our line of fish oil supplements. We supply our customers with truly superior quality fish oil supplements that are subjected to rigorous third-party testing for concentration and purity. In fact, we were among the first to implement independent testing and to make readily available the results of those tests to our customers.

FishOilBtls
To guarantee the outstanding quality of every bottle of Sealogix Omega-3 Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil, we follow a strict and methodical formula for production. First, the omega-3's in Sealogix are sourced from fish located in some of the purest waters in the world, from fisheries that are renewable and fully-sustainable. Next, our fish oil undergoes several processes (including molecular distillation and winterization) to concentrate and purify the oil.

In addition to making certain that Sealogix fish oils are well below the safety level established by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) for PCB's, the purification process ensures that they are free from mercury and heavy metal contamination (including lead, arsenic and cadmium). Furthermore, our refinement process helps to ensure that Sealogix is a fresh and stable product. Fish oils contain polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are prone to oxidation, thus risking the reduction of the shelf-life of the fish oil. Our premium fish oils are naturally processed to greatly reduce oxidative elements like peroxide and acids, resulting in stabilization that impedes further oxidation and prolongs the shelf-life of Sealogix products.

Each batch is then tested by International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS), a non-affiliated, third party laboratory that is considered the world’s premier fish oil testing agency. IFOS uses multiple scientific tests and analyses on every batch of Sealogix. In fact, IFOS imposes more stringent requirements for contaminants and oxidation than the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN). These tests ensure that our Sealogix customers are receiving a safe and effective fish oil supplement that they can feel confident providing to their families, and for themselves. Finally, we post the IFOS test results for each batch of Sealogix online, so our customers will know exactly what is contained in Sealogix Omega-3 Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil. We are proud to say that all Sealogix supplements have achieved IFOS’s highest possible rating for concentration and purity – five out of five stars. Go To Our IFOS Page.

Due to the superior quality, purity and concentration of these nutrients, Sealogix represents an exceptional value compared to other market brands. Click here to learn more about how Sealogix beats competing omega-3 brands and maintains exacting standards for safety.

Fish Oil Shown To Reduce Osteoarthritis Symptoms In Dogs

Recently 3 studies were done by The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) that have indicated that diets rich in fatty acids may reduce symptoms of osteoarthritis in dogs and improved mobility and showed less pain. This is excellent news because we finally have the clinical proof that fish oil is beneficial to our dogs diets.

One paper titled, "A multicenter study of the effect of dietary supplementation with fish oil omega-3 fatty acids on carprofen dosage in dogs with osteoarthritis", studied whether dogs with supplementation ended up receiving less of the anti-inflammatory drug carprofen. The dosage of carpofen was decided based on investigators' assessments of 5 clinical signs and owner assessments of 15 signs of osteoarthritis. In dogs with supplemented diets, the dosage of carprofen they received decreased significantly faster over the 12-week study period that in the control group. The teams conclusion was that where dogs are receiving carprofen to reduce pain, a diet with increased omega-3 fatty acids will decrease the carprofen dosage required for alleviation of symptoms.

A second paper, titled "Multicenter veterinary practice assessment of the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on osteoarthritis in dogs" had researchers investigating the effect of food containing high concentrations of fish oil omega-3 fatty acids and a low omega-6–omega-3 fatty acid ratio on the clinical signs of osteoarthritis in dogs. According to the owners of dogs on a supplemented diet, their dogs had a significantly improved ability to rise from a resting position and play at 6 weeks and improved ability to walk at 12 and 24 weeks after starting feeding.

The last paper, titled "Evaluation of the effects of dietary supplementation with fish oil omega-3 fatty acids on weight bearing in dogs with osteoarthritis", investigated the effects of a food supplemented with fish oil omega-3 fatty acids on weight bearing in dogs with osteoarthritis. The team concluded that dogs eating the supplemented food had improved weight bearing.

These studies did not state the type or grade of fish oil they used. However, most experts recommend supplement your pet's diet with a pure pharmaceutical grade fish oil. Inferior fish oils can be contaminated with mercury and other toxins so it's best to research the fish oil supplement you will be using.

On a personal note, we have used SeaLogix Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil with our dogs for over 6 years. We started using it, combined with a supplement called Agility, with our dog Storm who had severe hip and elbow dysplasia. Storm had both surgeries but we needed to keep him pain free. By the time he was 8 years old (he had both surgeries before the age of 1) he cried when he stood up or sat down. I believe, due to these two supplements, that Storm lived a pain free life for his last 3 1/2 years. He no longer cried and actually ran around our 5 acre property with the younger dogs. Many people have asked "why not just feed a food with fish oil in it or glucosamine or msm already in it?" My answer to this is that the food supplement with these items is great, however what happens when your dog needs more because he or she is still in pain? Do you just increase the amount of food? When you use supplements you can add extra (example in those harsh cold winter months) if your dog is hurting or decrease the amounts if your dog is feeling fine. If you increase the amount of food you'll only end up with an overweight dog which in turn will cause more problems.

Fish Oil Supplements Beat Psychotic Mental Illness

Article From The BBC News Feb 2, 2010 - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8490937.stm

Taking a daily fish oil capsule can stave off mental illness in those at highest risk, trial findings suggest.

A three-month course of the supplement appeared to be as effective as drugs, cutting the rate of psychotic illness like schizophrenia by a quarter.

The researchers believe it is the omega-3 in fish oil - already hailed for promoting healthy hearts - that has beneficial effects in the brain.

A "natural" remedy would be welcomed, Archives of General Psychiatry says.

"The finding that treatment with a natural substance may prevent, or at least delay, the onset of psychotic disorder gives hope that there may be alternatives to antipsychotic drugs," the study authors said.

Antipsychotic drugs are potent and can have serious side effects, which puts some people off taking them.

Fish oil supplements, on the other hand, are generally well tolerated and easy to take, say the scientists.

The international team from Austria, Australia and Switzerland tested the treatment in 81 people deemed to be at particularly high risk of developing psychosis.

Natural choice

Their high risk was down to a strong family history of schizophrenia, or similar disorders, or them already showing mild symptoms of these conditions themselves.

For the test, half of the individuals took fish oil supplements (1.2 grams of omega-3 fatty acids) for 12 weeks, while the other half took only a dummy pill. Neither group knew which treatment they were receiving.

Dr Paul Amminger and his team followed the groups for a year to see how many, if any, went on to develop illness.

Two in the fish oil group developed a psychotic disorder compared to 11 in the placebo group.

Based on the results, the investigators estimate that one high-risk adult could be protected from developing psychosis for every four treated over a year.

They believe the omega-3 fatty acids found in the supplements may alter brain signalling in the brain with beneficial effects.

Alison Cobb, of the mental health charity Mind, said: "If young people can be treated successfully with fish oils, this is hugely preferable to treating them with antipsychotics, which come with a range of problems from weight gain to sexual dysfunction, whereas omega-3s are actually beneficial to their general state of health.

"These are promising results and more research is needed to show if omega-3s could be an alternative to antipsychotics in the long term."

Life's Abundance Helps Dog Shelter Where Scores Of Dogs Are Dropped Off

Shelter02 Palm City, Florida – When the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County issued a public plea for assistance, after their dog population doubled in a single day, a company headquarted in Palm City stepped up to the plate … literally.

Seventy-five Chihuahuas and one Pug were dropped off at the shelter on October 19th, when a local breeder hit hard by the economy determined she could no longer operate her business.

Life's Abundance heeded the Society’s call for donations, providing more than 300 pounds of Life’s Abundance Premium Health Food for Puppies & Adult Dogs and Life’s Abundance Weight-Loss Formula for Adult Dogs and 46 pounds of Gourmet Dental Treats – Honey Peanut Butter Recipe.   The charitable giving helped to offset the shelter’s projected $30,000 shortfall in providing much-needed care to all of the animals.

“We’re all pet people here at Life's Abundance,” said Lester Thornhill, CEO of Life's Abundance. “When we learned about the shelter’s need, we felt we had to act immediately. We’d do it again in a heartbeat.”

All of the dogs, ranging in age from several years to just a few days old, received immediate veterinary attention. South Floridians interested in taking home these purebreds will have to wait another week to do so, but the shelter is encouraging any interested parties to visit soon before all the purebred dogs are adopted.

Life's Abundance is no stranger to giving back to the community. In 2007, Life's Abundance established a non-profit agency, The Dr. Jane HealthyPetNet Foundation, which awards financial grants on a quarterly basis to small- to medium-sized adoption agencies. While the foundation did not directly donate the foods and treats, they have donated tens of thousands of dollars to similarly worthwhile agencies located in South Florida and all over America.

Life’s Abundance and other premium pet products are available for purchase by clicking here. Life's Abundance is shipped direct to customers generally within 6 weeks of being made. If you’re interested in becoming an independent Field Representative for Life's Abundance, we encourage you to visit our “Opportunity” link today. SeaLogix Fish Oil Now With Sesamin - Improved Formula For Better Health

Sealogix As you may know, the Sealogix 120-capsule formula with sesamin was enhanced this April.  Naturally found in sesame seeds as lignans, sesamin comes from the 1% solid portion of the kernel's oil.  We made this change because sesame and the lignans derived from it are associated with many health benefits including improved heart and circulatory health.*

Since the science backing the health-promoting benefits of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil is undeniable, we truly believe that the addition of sesamin represents a huge improvement in the health-promotion potential of this superior formula.

That's why we are happy to announce that the 240-capsule bottles of Sealogix Omega-3 Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil  with Sesamin is now on sale!

The Sealogix Competitive Advantage

The addition of sesamin to Sealogix gives you a competitive advantage over the majority of other fish oil supplements on the market today.

While most consumers are well aware of the health-promoting properties of fish oil, the addition of sesamin takes this supplement to a new level.  It represents a new generation of fish oil supplements, which raises the value of the Sealogix products you offer to prospects and customers.

Antioxidants and Sesamin

Most fish oil supplements contain vitamin E, which is used to help stabilize the oil.  The antioxidant properties in sesamin work with the vitamin E in Sealogix to further suppress the natural oxidation process of the oil, which actually enhances the fish oil’s health-promoting benefits.

Based upon our research, we fully expect that you will experience even greater health benefits from this improved formula!

Sealogix Means Value

Due to its superior quality and concentration of nutrients, Sealogix represents an exceptional value compared to other brands.

Many fish oil supplements vary in purity, quality, concentration, size and price, which can make it difficult for consumers to determine whether or not they are getting good value for their money. To create a meaningful, apples-to-apples comparison for you and your customers, we looked at the two most prevalent nutrients in omega-3’s – EPA and DHA. We compared the cost of 1,000 mg of EPA and DHA in other brands against Sealogix, and the results are highly revealing.

1,000 mg of EPA and DHA in Sealogix Omega-3 Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil with Sesamin (240 capsules) costs only $0.54, much less than many of the popular supplements on the market. What Are Omega 3 Fatty Acids and the Health Benefits Associated With Taking Them From Fish Oil?

Omega-3's belong to a group of fatty acids known as long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Because the body does not manufacture them, Omega-3's are classified as "essential fatty acids" (EFA's), as it is essential they be obtained from food. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement your diet with these nutrients in order to significantly change your levels of Omega-3's.

The Omega-3's EPA and DHA are recognized for their health benefits in all life stages. They are important building blocks for every cell in your body, which requires these crucial components to grow, develop and maintain health. These fatty acids are an integral part of cell membranes and are precursors of several important cellular messengers. Studies have demonstrated that EPA is important for optimal brain function and contributes to the reduction of cellular inflammation. DHA has been recognized for brain, visual and nervous system health and development. Additionally, these essential fatty acids work together to contribute to good heart health.

Changes in food preferences and the impact of modern food processing in Western society have led to a significant decrease in average dietary intake of Omega-3 fatty acids. As a result, most American diets contain far more Omega-6's than Omega-3's. In fact, it is estimated that the average American has between twenty to fifty times the amount of Omega-6's as they do Omega-3's. Recent studies have indicated that this kind of imbalance can set the stage for a host of health problems. To promote a healthier fatty acid ratio, it is advisable to avoid Omega-6's (which are commonly found in fried foods, commercial baked goods and some margarines), and eat more baked or broiled seafood and supplement the diet with a high-quality fish oil.

Scientific evidence has indicated that a diet rich in Omega-3 essential fatty acids helps support:

A Healthy Brain

A Healthy Heart

A Healthy immune system

Healthy joint movement

Healthy kidneys

A balanced mood and sense of wellbeing

Strength and stamina

And helps maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range

Fish Oil Decreases Inflammation

A study at the University of Michigan confirms that  fish oil consumption can reduce cellular inflammation.  Researchers at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, published a study demonstrating that increased fish oil consumption and decreased vegetable oil consumption curbed the body’s overproduction of prostanoids.

Prostanoids are valuable chemicals, as they help regulate blood pressure and reduce allergic reactions. But when prostanoids are produced excessively, it leads to inflammation of organ and other bodily tissues. This inflammation can cause redness, pain and, in some cases, visible swelling. Many believe that cellular inflammation is a major cause of multiple illnesses and disease states.

Researchers are hopeful that these findings will lead to new, more effective anti-inflammatory drugs, as current treatments are frequently accompanied by many side effects.

Calcium & Bone Health

Every day, your body removes and replaces small amounts of calcium from your bones.  This process is called remodeling.  In fact, most of an adult skeleton is replaced about every 10 years.  However, if your body removes more calcium than it replaces, then your bones will become weaker and have a greater chance of breaking.  Your skeleton is a mineral storehouse for calcium and phosphorus.  If these nutrients are in short supply, the regulating hormones take them out of the bone and send them to other systems of the body, weakening the bone.

Ultralogix supplement provides the nutrients you need to support healthy bones. Osteo Essentials is specifically formulated to help make bones (including your teeth) strong and healthy. This supplement features seven different types of calcium and is fortified with bone-strengthening minerals.

Osteo Essentials has all the necessary nutrients to help protect your bones against brittleness and deterioration. With seven different types of calcium, this formula is fortified with Vitamin D, Magnesium and other bone-strengthening minerals that are difficult to obtain from diet alone. Additionally, the calcium is chelated (i.e., wrapped in amino acids) to ensure maximum absorption into the bloodstream. While all minerals have at least minute traces of lead, Osteo Essentials is created in accordance with the strictest pharmaceutical-grade standards, making it virtually lead-free for your safety. This Ultralogix supplement is formulated for males and females aged 13 and up.

Can Dogs & Cats Take Fish Oil?

Yes, Dogs & Cats Benefit From Fish Oil!

In research studies, fish oil has shown positive benefits in helping pets with disease. Fatty acids are among the most commonly used nutritional supplements used in treating dogs and cats. Fortunately, they have been used successfully long enough that most conventional veterinarians include their usage in the treatment of at least some diseases. Though some pet diets may include Omega-3 fatty acids, virtually none include satisfactory amounts of the most important Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. Many pet foods contain primarily Omega-6 fatty acids from vegetable oils resulting in a highly unbalanced ratio of Omega-6s to Omega-3s. Research has shown that a ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 of 5:1 to 10:1 is optimal for dogs and cats and therefore supplementing with a high quality Omega-3 fish oil supports pet health.

Omega 3 oils support heart, vision and joint health, provide important nutrients for proper immune function, and nourish the skin and coat. First suggested for use in treating allergies in pets, they are now advocated in cases of kidney disease, elevated cholesterol, and arthritis as well. Veterinarians are discovering that fatty acids can be valuable for a variety of conditions. Fish oil supplementation may be helpful for pets with inflammatory diseases including allergies, arthritis, kidney disease, heart disease, and cancers. Pets with any type of inflammatory disease may benefit from fish oil supplementation. In general, more severe disease requires doses higher than those commonly recommended.

Fish oil is very effective in some pets with allergies and skin disease. It is easy to administer (via gel caps or liquid) and can reduce the amount of corticosteroid or antihistamine needed to control itching. Most pets take either form well. For pets that are difficult to "pill," the liquid form is quite popular. Owners of dogs and cats 20 pounds and under find the liquid form more cost effective than the large bottle of fatty acid capsules that we prescribe. The response is variable in other diseases (such as kidney disease) but fish oil appears effective in research studies. In pets with some types of cancer, fish oil has slowed down the growth and spread of the cancer. While more studies are needed on other types of cancer, the general recommendation is to add fish oil to the diets of all pets with cancer.

As with other supplements, the use of fatty acids often allows doctors to lower the dosages of drugs such as corticosteroids or antihistamines. Choosing a high quality Omega-3 fish oil supplement with exceptional purity and freshness, as well as, high levels of Omega-3s is key to supporting pet health.

How Quickly Will My Pet Benefit From Omega 3 Supplements?

While the pet begins benefiting quickly, you may not notice a difference for 3-4 months. The pet's body will change from the inside out—first the individual cells, then tissues, then organs. Gradually you'll notice the coat and skin become more radiant. When you see this, you'll know the internal organs, including the kidneys, liver, heart, and brain, are also experiencing more radiant health.

Because fats are an expensive component of pet foods, many commercial foods do not contain high levels, especially of the Omega 3 fatty acids. Most pets benefit from fatty acid supplements. We recommend SeaLogix Ultra Refined Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil

Fish Oil Purity

We have no one but ourselves to blame for the toxic contaminants found in fish oil. These toxins include mercury (from the burning of coal), PCBs (used in electrical insulation), and dioxins (the active ingredient in defoliants used in the Vietnam War). Although production of PCBs and dioxins has long been banned, they rarely break down and thus accumulate in the marine food chain that ends with fish. These toxins are known carcinogens and neurotoxins. In fact, the levels in the Eskimo population, who consume large amounts of fatty fish rich in EPA and EPA, are well above the safety standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO), and recent studies indicate that they are approaching the upper limits of safety in the Japanese population.

Here lies the dilemma - how to remove these toxins to obtain all the tremendous health benefits of EPA and DHA. The solution was the development of a new manufacturing process for producing ultra refined EPA/DHA concentrates.

Buyer Beware!
If you or someone you know is using a fish oil that is not tested by an independent laboratory for concentration, purity and stability, it's buyer beware. Ask the manufacturer of that fish oil what it is trying to hide. It's one thing to print pharmaceutical-grade on a label, it's quite another to actually make a truly "pharmaceutical grade ultra refined" fish oil.
